Bracing and Splinting

After surgery or injury it may be necessary to brace the particular joint in need. Even if a patient is looking for stability and use of a brace in a preventative manner; SSPT can order and fit each individual with the brace that their physician prescribes. (See below for common Diagnoses that require bracing) There may also be a need for a splint or prosthetic. In some instances these need to be custom made. In that situation we work with local prosthetic and orthotic clinics to develop the brace to meet your need. Once the brace is cast we will fit and train the patient in proper use. It may be that the joint/joints in question just need to be immobilized. We are able to meet this need as well.

Common Diagnoses Seen that Require Bracing:

  • Elbow (Golfer and Tennis Elbow)
  • Wrist/Hand (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome)
  • Knee (S/P ACL surgery, Knee Scope, Instability and multiple other surgeries)
  • Ankle/Foot (Ankle Sprain)
  • Back (TLSO, General Bracing)
  • Common Issues Requiring Custom Bracing:

  • Orthotics measured/fitted at our facility

Spinal and Neuro Rehab

Following a stroke (CVA), traumatic brain injury, and congenital disorders etc. patients may need extensive physical therapy to allow for return of functions and mobility. It is with these diagnoses that the patient and their families want to be very selective on where they go for treatment. The Physical Therapists and staff have to be creative and knowledgeable for each and every diagnosis. At SSPT we pride our self on having the most caring and trained staff to be able to aid these individuals in returning to daily life. In addition to the knowledge gained in school there are multiple Continuing Education Classes that are attended to try and keep our skills current and up to date.

Post Operative and Joint Replacement Rehab

The past few years total joint replacement has become more and more common with individuals having their shoulders, ankles, hips, and knees replaced. This allows for a decrease in pain, increase in function, and an overall better quality of life. To ensure that range of motion and strength are returned to prior levels one must have a quality rehab program that will allow for safe and supervised return to normal daily activities. There are several options for treatment following surgery they include:

  • Aquatic therapy
  • Traditional Land Based Treatment
  • Mat exercises
  • Use of various modalities such as: heat, electric stimulation, Ultra Sound, Ionto, cold, etc.
  • Gym based exercises: Cybex equipment, Airdyne bikes, total gym, Upper Bike Ergometer, and multiple other pieces of equipment
  • Manual treatment: Gentle mobilizations (to reduce pain and gain range of motion), Massage, etc.
  • Proprioceptive Activities: These type of activities work on Balance (lower extremity act's) or functional use of the Upper Extremity's
  • Types of surgeries include: Total Hip Replacement, Total knee Replacement, Total Shoulder Replacement, and Ankle Replacements. There have also been Disc Replacements recently and in the future possibly more joints will be replaceable
